Since I’m just getting started here, I’m fine-tuning what you can expect from me.
Substack says we can think of this as our own personal manifesto. They might be going a bit over the top with that. In its original meaning, "manifesto" usually has political goals and declarations.
Make no mistake, I’m not motivated by any personal political goals or declarations. Maybe the occasional political observation.
Hey, did you see Nikki Haley on SNL last night?
Oops. No more. I promise. (And, no, I didn’t see her either.)
This is 2024. I think it’s safe to say that a personal manifesto can include any stream of consciousness thoughts (like today’s post), and maybe, some life goals—past or present. I was discussing my life goals with a previous therapist, and bemoaned my sons’ inability to accept some of my choices. Her response was that I should remember:
“I’m a grown ass woman and I can do what I want.”
Sufficeth to say, I have used that expression a time or two since then. LOL.
Regarding today’s Substack post, let me say, “right off the bat” (a phrase my mother used frequently) that I’m just getting started here.
I’m not sure if I’ll check in once a week, but go ahead and subscribe anyway. Let’s say once a week is my goal. Maybe Sunday mornings. (No, I don’t go to church. I don’t even go to brunch on Sunday mornings.)
My subjects? Anything from conquering my body dysmorphic disorder to “woman on the street” observations to my appreciation for diversity. Specifically, I love world cultures and my own country’s diversity. I prefer to consider how much we are alike than how much we are different.
Please comment as you wish. Let’s get to know each other.
Substack also says we can think of Substack as our playground.
That’s more like it. Let’s have fun!
